Proofreading and Copyediting

Some of the clients I work with love to write and have time to do so – they just aren’t sure whether what they have produced is fit for purpose or flows well in conjunction with their existing copy. Writing and copywriting are very different disciplines – so having a professional eye cast over the copy you’ve written yourself is a cost-effective way of ensuring it is the very best it can be.

What is proofreading?

English isn’t everybody’s favourite subject – but good grammar and accurate spelling are important to clients – whether you are a plumber, a grocer, a financial advisor or beautician. Spelling mistakes and poor grammar help you to stand out for all the wrong reasons – and could have a detrimental effect on your business when scrupulous clients decide to go elsewhere. This is why proofreading is an invaluable service – and one which is really popular with many of my clients. Simply send me your copy and I will check it over to ensure it is grammatically correct, eliminate spelling mistakes and check that overall the copy flows well.

What is copyediting?

Here I take your existing copy and go through it as I would when proofreading. I then edit the copy taking into account its purpose and audience – going a step further than proofreading to make changes and even restructure the text if required. I may make further suggestions and can recommend and advise on the tone and nature of the material for next time.
